Masking as a user allows you to view your course as a specific student.  To mask as a user,

  1. Click the ellipses ⋮ to the right of your course name.
  2. Select "Manage Users."
  3. Find the user you want to mask as.
  4. Click the ellipses ⋮ to the right of the student's name.
  5. Select Mask User.

Note that you now see the student's name in red at the top right replacing your name, indicating you are masked as them.  When you are done masking as a user, click their name and select "Exit Mask View."  This will return you to your normal dashboard.

In some cases, you may not be able to mask:

This typically means you are trying to mask as someone who has a higher permission level than you do. For example, instructors can mask as students, but cannot mask as someone who is an administrator.  A less common reason is that the user you are trying to mask as belongs to more than one organization.  Currently, you can only mask as users that belong to one organization.

Please note

This functionality is only available to goreact.com users. If you are using GoReact in an LMS (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.), then you will need to use the LMS masking functionality instead (i.e. Act as User, Preview User, etc.).
